In all honesty I wasn’t really looking forward to moving to Pittsburgh. I don’t recall ever seeing or hearing anything about the city in the media that would have influenced my opinion on it. I actually didn’t know a single thing about the city before I moved here. So my first impression of the city was when my family and I were driving to our new house, i had no idea what the city or Pennsylvania was like until I had arrived. The first thing I noticed on my drive was the hills. I had never seen anything like it. Back in Michigan the land was very flat and the roads were set up in a grid like fashion, so when I got off the turnpike I had a tough time navigating the winding roads that swerved around and through the many hills of Pennsylvania. Then came the tunnel that would lead me to my first look at Pittsburgh. As I drove though the tunnel I tried to catch a glimpse of what could be on the other side, trying to peak through the vehicles that were driving ahead of me all I could manage to see was the bright light that awaited at the end of the tunnel. Closer and closer I crept until finally I had entered the blinding light and got my first glimpse of Pittsburgh. I had never seen anything like it. With the city being surrounded by mountains and elevated roads it reminded me of something that belonged in a science fiction movie. I was eager and excited to go out and explore the new city that had become my home.
